Jr. Thunderbirds and Rangers announce 2022 Boys Youth coaching staffs

The Springfield Junior Thunderbirds and Springfield Rangers are excited to announce this year's boys Youth hockey team coaching staffs.

Coach Bios

Chris Demers (U18 BHL)

2021-2022 will be Chris’ 4th year behind the bench for the Riles/Jr. Thunderbirds.  Chris grew up locally playing for the Suffield HS where he was part of the team to win a Division 2 State Championship.  He moved on to play collegiate hockey.  His youth coaching career began in 2004 and he has coached every age group from novice to midgets.  Chris currently holds a Level 4 USA Hockey Certificate.

Walt Wosko (U18 BHL)

2021-2022 will be Walt’s first year with the Jr. Thunderbirds.  Walt grew up locally playing for Suffield HS, Springfield PICS and the Ottawa 67’s.  He was an undrafted free agent for the Boston Bruins(NHL), Nashville Nights(ECHL) and the Bismark Bulls(AHA).  His youth coaching career began in 2005 and he has coached every age group from novice to midgets.  Walt currently holds a Level 4 USA Hockey Certificate.

 

Kevin Labrie (2012s, 2009s)

The Springfield JR Thunderbirds ( Formerly Springfield Rifles) are excited to announce the addition of Coach Kevin LaBrie for the 2022-23 season.

Kevin will be part of the 2012 and 2009 teams staff. Kevin brings 16 years of experienced coaching for youth hockey on various levels  including local, independent and select teams.  He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1998 and played 4 years of varsity hockey.

“I look forward to bringing my passion for hockey and player development to the Jr Thunderbirds organization.” Said Labrie

 

Doug Janik (2012s, 2013s)

The Springfield Junior Thunderbirds are excited to announce that Doug Janik will be joining the coaching staff for the 2022-23 season.

Check out just a brief snapshot of Janik's hockey career on the ice and off:
-played on multiple USA National teams
- 1999 NCAA Champion
University of Maine
- 1999 2nd Round Draft pick Buffalo Sabres
-played 14 years professional hockey
-Coached 5 years professional hockey
-coached 1 years NCAA division 1 college hockey
-current pro scout for the Nashville Predators

“I am excited for the opportunity to work with young athletes to help improve there skill development and hockey knowledge in a fun environment with the Jr. Thunderbirds," Janik said.
